    Abstract: 柳宗元山水之作,雖來自其感興,其實乃其人堙鬱不得志之思。諺云:「文窮而後工」,以柳氏的窮厄,故其情益切,思益深,為文即能精而邃密,故千載之下讀其文者,乃能感受其境的幽緲隱微。
    進一層說,觀山觀水,人所同然。惟常人之「觀」,流於泛覽,未能深照其境;慧識之人,則觀物而得,因得而生趣,故能入所謂「幽緲隱微」之境。如〈永州八記〉之篇,雖順筆以為,獨立之外,又能綜纂為一,使幽緲之意益切,隱微之趣益深,創作經驗上,較《水經注》猶有過之。
    至如本論文所舉:「形神兼備」、「虛實相生」、「精心摩狀」、「情景交融」、「風格冷雋」諸點,有形式之說,亦有內容之論,兼而論之,即是「美」韻的整合。要之,柳氏山水之作,不離美姿美趣,以其姿美,故摩狀生動;以其趣美,故能形神備體,虛實互暢,終之則於冷雋要義外,得其情景之交融;情景融貫,山水之境即躍之以出;乃知唐宋以後,詠誦山水者,每以〈永州〉為訓,蓋亦得自柳氏雋逸之風骨。
