    Title: A Study on the Vegetables Supply Chain Management of Co.opMart System in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

    Abstract: Vegetables are agricultural products, which are of high value, and Vietnamese people cannot be short of them in their daily meals. Moreover, vegetables easily spoil by nature, which is the big challenge that managers supply chain face. In Vietnam, the marketing vegetables with characterized by a diversity of distribution chains that includes formal markets, street vendors, shops and supermarkets. Presently, the government is promoting the expansion of supermarket distribution and eliminating all informal trade. However, management vegetables supply chain in supermarkets does not have high effect. The rate of vegetables distribution in supermarkets is very low, only 4.9 percent. Therefore, management vegetables supply chain has become an important strategy of supermarkets. Especially, Vietnam officially opened retail market on January 1st, 2009. This will enable foreign investors to do business in Vietnam with 100% foreign capital; supply chain management not only helps companies solve their problems and build their brand name in the market but also creates competitive advantages. The main purposes in this study were to understand what relationship and problems in B2B, B2C vegetable supply chain of Co.op Mart system in HCM City; to find how to measure the performance for B2B, B2C; and to suggestions for improvement of the vegetable supply chain management in Co.op Mart. There are four objectives: 1. To identify what factors had significant influence on the B2B, B2C; 2. To find out which groups of consumers have a trend to choose vegetable in Co.op Mart; 3. To analyses the weaknesses and strengths, opportunities and challenges for vegetables supply chain; 4. To find out and make suggestions for improvement of the vegetable SCM of Co.op Mart system in HCM. The approach in this study based on case study resarch. In-depth interviews conducted with seven vegetable suppliers and five managers of Co.opMart; face-to-face interview with self-administered questionnaires conducted with 130 customers at four Co.opMart supermarkets in HCM City. The SPSS used for analyzing the collected data by a combination of statistical procedures. Results of statistical analysis showed that vegetables price was high, quantity and species of vegetables did not meet the need of consumers during Tet holidays and public holidays. Therfore, the satisfaction level of Co.opMart vegetables SCM was not high.
