    Abstract: 完成於清光緒20年（1894）的《恆春縣志》記載了恆春縣成立後原漢衝突持續惡化，曾爆發多起的番患，甚且需要動員大量官兵入山圍剿，而發生原因多係漢人欠繳柴寮番租所引起。當地客家族群與排灣族關係良好，雙方合作對付閩南族群，故也激起閩客族群的對峙。官府陸續採取頒布招撫章程、佈署防番武備、以番制番、聯庄自保及設立義塾等種種方法，希冀令社番漢化，有效防範番患，然其效果卻是有限的。《恆春縣志》雖是倉卒成書，但仍是了解清末恆春縣複雜族群關係的重要官方志書。
