Abstract:	鵝鑾鼻燈塔是清末臺灣燈樓的指標，其興建過程極為複雜。自同治6年（1867）美國商船羅發號事件發生，李仙得來臺交涉開始，而鵝鑾鼻燈塔地點的開始查勘，則與同治13年（1874）牡丹社事件日軍侵臺關係極為密切。光緒7年（1881）南岬燈塔動工，光緒9年（1883）正式啟用，又有官兵駐防，同時具備防番與防洋的雙重功能。故審度清末鵝鑾鼻燈塔的興建背景，幾乎皆與當時的美、日兩國脫離不了關聯，其重要性不言而喻。
